Exploring My Natural Hair

I have been transitioning my hair from chemically processed to no chemicals since December 2010.  For the past 4 years I grew my hair out from a short manicured do, to a long mane that ended at my collar bone.  It would have definitely been longer if wouldn’t have kept cutting it back into a bob every 6 months (apparently, I have an infinity for short styles).

After four years of growing my hair out, I decided to cut it all off again.  It was time to go back to the style I had grown accustom to 8 years prior to my decision to transition.

Now that I’m short again, I wanted to explore and embrace my natural hair.  Below you will find my first attempt to rock my natural fro!  I think for a first attempt it looks pretty good.

Product List:

Malin & Goetz Gentle Neroli Shampoo
Malin & Goetz Cilantro Hair ConditionerMalin & Goetz Intensive Hair Conditioner
Organic Coconut Oil
(Great for the skin too, I use it in lieu of lotion or Vaseline)
Kimble Beauty Leave-In Conditioner
Malin & Goetz Sage Styling Cream
Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk:  Refresher Spray
(Used in the morning to refresh my curls)

***Listed in the order of use***

Note:  I had a few random straight pieces that I used perm rods (found at your local beauty supply store) on to help define the curl.  Because I’ve straighten my hair for the last 4 years, I do have a few pieces that just aren’t trained to be super curly, yet.

As you can tell, I have a great love for the Malin & Goetz brand.  That is because when I first started transitioning, I tried so many products and they all seemed to leave my hair feeling dry.  I happened to stumbled across this brand while shopping in Bloomingdale’s.  The lady only gave me a sample, and we all know how small a sample is.  But just off of one use of the sample I could see the difference in my hair.  I have used it ever since. The Gentle Neroli Shampoo is designed for textured hair, and you can tell that it is.  It works with your curls and not against it.

Please don’t forget to leave me a list of your favorite products.  I’m looking forward to playing around with this new look and trying new products!
